One good point that was made by Prim above is that managers(talent scouts)and even A&R have to take some responsibility too in bringing talent to the masses. As a talent scout myself (The GunnAr Management Group, LLC - www.myspace.com/skiviousentertainment) it is a daily grind and constant struggle to weed out real talent amongst those who are claiming that they are talented. And I even hesitate to use the word "claim" because a lot of talent hasn't been put through the test or in the booth and been given an opportunity to prove or disprove themselves. Soulja Boy is a product of the times - and that fact must be recognized. Who really is a fault if we need to use the word fault to describe what has happened to Hip-Hop and the culture that took 30+ years to cultivate? I must admit that I too have a difficult time understanding "Crunk" and the gimmicky side that Hip-Hop/Rap has taken. KRS-One has decided to embrace Soulja Boy and I, to some degree, have a problem with that because it's almost as if he's giving the green light to create more of this misunderstand generation and the music that is being produced by it. From my understanding, KRS-One is the only one doing this and to the best of my knowledge - will be standing alone on this one.

As long as we still got rappers like Mr. West, Andre, Lupe, Q-Tip, Mr. Kwele mybad for not spellin it right but any way Common, TIP. The real patrons of hiphop will try not to let it fall in the hands of a young black man of Soulja Boy caliber to carry on tradition. I think some of the people that are incharge of finding talent are slacking on they job just a little bit. What happen to the poetry art form of hiphop. You got gangster putin this youngman to shame and all they talk about is killin an dat shizzle sound better than Soulja Boy shizzle to me!
